The Kingston Potters’ Guild, one of the oldest pottery guilds in the province of Ontario, is a not-for-profit organization serving the Kingston community. Our diverse membership represents a wide range of backgrounds and ages. We are a cooperative organization: our vision is to support a high level of professionalism and the artistic development of members and students in the art and craft of ceramics.
Our mandate is to:
- encourage the growth and development of ceramics as an art, create and maintain a high standard of artistic expression and technical skill within the craft and act as a medium for the exchange of ideas and technical information
- promote ceramic exhibitions and demonstrations
To fulfill these goals we offer communal studio space and equipment to members and a variety of classes to the general public.
Any individual interested in learning the art of ceramics can take a class or join the Guild at a reasonable fee. We hold juried shows and establish synergies with other groups at the Tett Centre.
We reach out to our community by offering classes and special events. The Guild showcases its members’ work twice a year at our Spring and Fall Shows. We arrange workshops with noted ceramic artists to provide instruction for our members (and the general public). Our classes range from beginner to advanced instruction.
The Guild serves the Kingston community by being the key donor of bowls to the annual Martha’s Table fundraising event “Empty Bowls”. We also respond to specific requests for ceramic instruction within the community, and our members individually donate their work to various silent auctions to raise money for such organizations as the Canadian Cancer Society and the Diabetes Foundation.
