Hyla Nemy taught some guild members the first in a series of classes on firing your kiln. Whether they were new to firing, or experienced, there was much to find to improve your firing results.

Most people do a bisque firing, then a separate glaze firing. Hyla covered both.

Here are a few tips from the course.

Electric kilns heat from the outside walls, where the elements are located, in towards the center, so stagger the shelves and place taller pots in the middle of the stack to promote better heat penetration to the middle of the kiln.
