Upcoming Workshops

The Kingston Potters’ Guild provides a diverse range of pottery workshops throughout the year to bring in accomplished potters and ceramicists from around the country and internationally. Workshops are open to our members and to the general public.

There are no upcoming workshops at this time.

Past Workshops

Maureen Marcotte, March 3 & 4, 2018

Don’t miss this wonderful potter’s workshop where you’ll learn some of the techniques that make her work so arresting. Check out the wonderful examples on her site.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll use wax resist, sgraffito and underglaze colours to create patterns, designs, and drawings on your pots. Wax resist and slips will be provided. Bring at least a couple of bone-dry greenware pots, white clay is best if possible.  Bring some ideas of patterns and designs for inspiration (I’ll bring lots too) and most importantly, a sense of adventure and playfulness, and we’ll see what interesting designs and colours we can come up with.

Materials List

  1. At least two bone-dry (not leather hard) greenware pots to decorate. White clay is best.
  2. Underglaze slips if you use them. I’ll also be providing some that we use at cone 10 but they’ll probably work at cone 6 as well.
  3. Three or four bone-dry greenware 4 or 5 inch tiles to practise on. I’ll bring some as well, but you may prefer to test colours on your own clay body.
  4. Brushes for applying slip.
  5. Ideas for decorating your pots: sketches, books, photos, patterns etc.
